Something that has been on my mind lately is an old game that I feel should be revived. Now, I’m sure there are lots of games out there that many of us feel should be either re-done or have a sequel, but one game sticks out in my mind and it’s a game I have not played for a long time. That game is Advent Rising. I feel that this game, despite its glitches, was ahead of the curve. Advent Rising was developed by GlyphX Games and published by Majesco. Unfortunately, the game’s retail performance fell short of expectations and the company canceled plans for future Advent Rising games, abandoning trilogy development plans.

The game held some of the coolest in-game experiences that even games to this day do not offer. The encounters that you faced against formidable enemies seemed to get more entertaining as you unlocked each new ability. The ever-increasing abilities of the player’s character are what made this game immersive and why so many people say it was a great game. I’m willing to bet that if a sequel was produced and the developers took the time to fix the glitches, it could out-sell Mass Effect. In my opinion, an Advent Rising sequel has the potential to dominate the gaming industry with the next-gen consoles given its popularity with stalwart fans.

Thank you for reading my blog entry. If you have a game that’s on your mind and you think it should be revived, I urge you to share your thoughts with me.

  1. I completely agree about advent rising. I’ve been waiting for the sequel for so long hoping one day it would finally come.

I found Donald Mustard (one of the creators) on twitter and decided to ask him if it was ever coming last week.

the next day he posted “very soon…”

I don’t know if it was a response to me because he didn’t post @ me but it was the next thing he posted right after my question.

I’m hoping he didn’t want to directly imply that it was coming and get in trouble since there wasn’t an official announcement and it was his way of saying yes without saying it.

Hopefully. If it came out it would be amazing. Especially now on the consoles now it could be so much more amazing. Especially since it’s owned by the same people who make Gears of War so it would come out great and problem free.

  2. I feel the same way about Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

This game was filled with glitches: campaign trigger waypoints that don’t work, disappearing guns in multiplayer, impossible to kill AI units, etc the list goes on.

Unfortunately, the developers, Codemasters, decided to abandon all support of the game after releasing two DLCs. This means that the AI will never be fixed, and multiplayer glitches will persist.

This is sad because it is actually a very beautiful game and is the closest simulation of warfare in videogames.
